Jamari Brown is the Director of Economic and Community Development for the Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County. In this role, Jamari leads efforts to recruit and grow businesses for retail, residential, and commercial development while aligning workforce and affordable housing development efforts in Nashville. Additionally, he serves as executive director of the Metro Nashville Industrial Development Board (IDB) and administrator of the Nashville Foreign Trade Zone.
Prior to joining the Mayor’s Office, Jamari began his career with the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development in 2008. During his 11 years with the department, he served as project lead on more than 70 projects that have announced more than 13,000 jobs and investments of $2 billion in Tennessee.
Following his career in public service, Jamari entered the private sector, spending time as a commercial real estate broker with JLL, and most recently, he served as a director of economic incentives advisory for Newmark's Global Corporate Services. In this role, he assisted on several national and international site selection projects, with a focus on corporate operations, automotive, food manufacturing, and data centers. Additionally, he led and assisted with the development of economic development strategic plans for communities across the US.
Jamari has previously served as a board member on the MNAA Board of Commissioners, Nashville Downtown Partnership, Governor’s Medical Device Advisory Board, Life Science Tennessee, and Tokenize Tennessee.
Jamari has a degree in business administration with a focus on marketing from the University of Tennessee at Martin.
