Recent bipartisan passage of the CHIPS & Science Act was an important recognition by the Congress and President that the United Stated must invest in new knowledge and the translation of that knowledge into products, industries, and jobs. The legislation included $52 billion in emergency spending to bolster the U.S. semiconductor industry and also authorized major science and technology programs at the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy and elsewhere across the federal government. Over 50 members of the Council recently sent a letter to House and Senate leadership urging Congress to follow through on the promise of the CHIPS and Science Act and fully appropriate its authorized programs in FY2023 and in the years to follow.
