Prof. Brian DeMarco
Director, IQUIST(Illinois Quantum Information Science & Technology Center)
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign

Brian DeMarco is a professor of physics at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. His research team uses atoms and light to expand the frontier of quantum science, computing, and networking. DeMarco leads the National Science Foundation Quantum Leap Challenge Institute for Hybrid Architectures and Networks (HQAN). This multi-institutional, midwest center of 40+ senior researchers and their teams works to establish a new paradigm of quantum computing, which involves nodes of different qubit platforms connected by network links. DeMarco is also the Director of IQUIST (the Illinois Quantum Information Science & Technology Center), which supports the $150M+ portfolio of quantum research at UIUC, including 67 faculty and senior researchers, 40+ postdocs, and 170+ graduate students. DeMarco is an Associate Director and CTO for the new Illinois Quantum and Microelectronics Park and the Illinois technical lead for the Illinois DARPA Quantum Proving Ground. In national service to the field, DeMarco is the Chair Elect of the American Physical Society Panel on Public Affairs, and has served in other roles, including as Chair of the NASA Fundamental Physical Sciences Standing Review Board.
