A Competitiveness Conversation:

The Indiana-Illinois Innovation Corridor—
Chips, Qubits, and Molecules

To remain competitive in the next economy, the United States must expand its innovation footprint, and there is a growing urgency to capitalize on the untapped talent, technology, and infrastructure across America.

Under the auspices of the National Commission on Innovation and Competitiveness Frontiers, the Council on Competitiveness has launched a new leadership platform, “Competitiveness Conversations Across America”: a set of regional summits and fora in all corners of the United States to uncover local best practices in amplifying innovation capacity and capability, and to elevate and deploy these practices to national attention.

The Indiana-Illinois Competitiveness Conversation will explore the remarkable demonstration of regional collaboration between Purdue University, Argonne National Laboratory, and the University of Illinois System. By coming together, these three institutions broke traditional boundaries to build an epicenter of three critical technologies that will transform the world: microelectronics, quantum science and computing, and advanced biosciences.

How did this come to fruition? What challenges have been overcome, and what opportunities lie ahead? What lessons can the broader United States glean from the Indiana-Illinois innovation corridor’s success? Leaders from across the region and nation will provide insights as they discuss strategies for accelerating innovation, boosting competitiveness, and fostering a more prosperous and secure future.
