Dr. Jeff Prevost

Dr. John "Jeff" Prevost is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He holds the Cloud Technology Endowed Professorship and serves as the Graduate Advisor of Record for the M.S. in Artificial Intelligence program.

Dr. Prevost earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from UTSA in 2013. Before transitioning to academia, he accumulated nearly two decades of industry experience, holding positions such as Director of Product Development, Director of Information Systems, and Chief Technical Officer in various San Antonio-based technology firms.

In 2015, Dr. Prevost co-founded UTSA's Open Cloud Institute (OCI), where he initially served as Assistant Director and Chief Research Officer. In 2021, he was appointed Executive Director of the OCI, leading efforts to advance cloud and edge computing through seminars, workshops, internships, and collaborative research.

In 2021, Dr. Prevost was selected as the VP for Secure Cloud Architecture for the Cyber Manufacturing Innovation Institute (CyManII). He currently co-leads the Shared Research and Development Infrastructure team that is responsible for the development of a cloud to edge infrastructure deployment that securely interconnects manufacturers and researchers throughout the United States.

Dr. Prevost's research interests encompass advanced control mechanisms for cloud computing, quantum cloud computing, distributed computing architecture, and power management techniques in cloud systems. He has contributed to the UTSA Center for Security and Privacy Enhanced Cloud Computing, supported by a $5 million National Science Foundation grant aimed at bolstering the cloud computing workforce and enhancing San Antonio's status as a cybersecurity hub.

In addition to his research, Dr. Prevost is dedicated to education, teaching courses in cloud computing, control systems, intelligent controls, quantum machine learning, and quantum sensing. He integrates his extensive industry experience into his teaching to provide students with practical insights and applications.

Dr. Prevost has been cited over 1,000 times in scholarly publications, reflecting his significant contributions to fields such as cloud computing, the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, and quantum informatics.

Residing in San Antonio, Texas, Dr. Prevost continues to advance research and education in cloud computing and related technologies, preparing students to excel in the rapidly evolving tech landscape.
