Dr. Susan Hubbard is the Deputy Laboratory Director at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) for Science and Technology and the Executive Vice President for Science and Technology at UT-Battelle.
Dr. Hubbard guides one of the nation's most extensive research portfolios. The portfolio spans physical and materials sciences, energy sciences, computational sciences, neutron sciences, biological sciences, climate and environmental sciences, isotope technologies, and global security. She also oversees ORNL’s transfer of technologies into the marketplace, educational research programs, and institutional partnerships. Prior to ORNL she was an Associate Laboratory Director at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory, a scientist at the US Geological Survey, and a geophysicist in industry.
Susan is recognized for pioneering the field of hydrogeophysics, which advances geophysical and data fusion approaches to quantify processes that govern water availability, water quality, carbon cycling, and agricultural soil health. She is a member of the National Academy of Engineering, a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, a Fellow of the American Geophysical Union, and a Fellow of the Geological Society of America and a recipient of numerous professional society named awards.
