Maryland Competitiveness Conversation Summary Report

On March 23–24, 2026, the Council on Competitiveness convened the eleventh edition of its "Competitiveness Conversations Across America" series, held under the auspices of the National Commission on Innovation and Competitiveness Frontiers. "Maryland: Unlocking American Innovation in the AI and Quantum Era" spanned two days and two campuses, opening at Morgan State University in Baltimore and concluding at the University of Maryland, College Park. More than 60 speakers, including Maryland Governor Wes Moore, senior federal officials, CEOs, university presidents, and leading researchers, joined more than 200 senior-level participants from industry, academia, government, labor, and civic organizations. Together they examined how Maryland is turning its deep base of federal research, anchor universities, and a growing industrial base into national leadership in AI and quantum computing.

The Conversation was co-hosted by Dr. David K. Wilson, President of Morgan State University and a member of the Council's Executive Committee; National Commissioner Dr. Darryll J. Pines, President of the University of Maryland, College Park; and the Hon. Deborah L. Wince-Smith, President and CEO of the Council on Competitiveness.Read more about this event here:
