To remain competitive in the next economy, the United States must broaden its innovation footprint and move with urgency to harness untapped talent, technology, and infrastructure across the nation.
Under the auspices of its "National Commission on Innovation and Competitiveness Frontiers," the Council on Competitiveness is leading the Competitiveness Conversations Across America series—regional summits held nationwide to spotlight local best practices that strengthen innovation capacity and capability, and to elevate these insights to the national stage.
This edition of the Competitiveness Conversation series focuses on the bioeconomy. Projected to grow into a $30 trillion global market by 2050, the bioeconomy is set to transform how the world produces food, energy, materials, and medicine. This Competitiveness Conversation will convene executive leaders from business, academia, national laboratories, labor, and government to chart the path for U.S. leadership in this rapidly emerging frontier. Participants will explore how breakthroughs in genetic engineering, synthetic biology, and biomanufacturing are revolutionizing industries—pharmaceuticals, sustainable materials, renewable energy, industrial processes, and food production—and redefining economic competitiveness, supply chain resilience, and national security.
Nebraska, a national leader in agriculture, medicine, and biotechnology, offers a unique cross-sector environment for bioeconomy innovation—making the University of Nebraska a fitting host for this strategic dialogue. Join us to shape the strategy that will secure the United States' role as the global pacesetter in the bioeconomy.
This Competitiveness Conversation will be held at the historical Durham Museum in Omaha, Nebraska. The Durham Museum blends incredible architecture with a historic look at Omaha and the region. In 2016, Union Station, which houses the Durham Museum, was designated a National Historic Landmark by the National Park Service and U.S. Department of the Interior.
